Air Asia To Sponsor Indonesia's Persebaya

ONE of Malaysian-based leading multinational airlines Air Asia, noticed their interest to sponsor Persebaya Surabaya, an Indonesian legendary football club with great mass of fans. It will the first time Air Asia intends to sponsor a football club from Indonesia.

Air Asia has already become main sponsor for Queens Park Rangers (QPR), contestant of Europe's prestigious football competition, English Premier League (EPL).
Air Asia's proposition to reach Persebaya stemmed from friendly match between the Surabaya club against QPR last September. Air Asia owner, Paul Fernandez has hinted that Persebaya is an ideal will-be partner to promote his company image in Indonesia.
Last week, Persebaya media office, Surahman, disclosed Air Asia's offer to cooperate. And now Surahman explains that Air Asia want to sponsor The Green Crocodile - Persebaya nickname - dan the Malaysian company is still waiting for a response.
But then Surahman says that Persebaya is still struggling in discussion of Memorandum of Understanding between PT Persebaya Indonesia (PT PI) and PT Pengelola Persebaya (PT PP). 'Air Asia has offered to be main sponsor, but we have not responded yet. We must  discuss MoU between PT PI and PT PP," Surahman said.
Negotiation between PT PI and PT PP, Surahman says, is very crucial since it will also discuss subsidies for internal clubs under Persebaya management.
Persebaya Chief Executive, Cholid Ghoromoah confirms Air Asia proposition, and it is highly possible that the airlines' logo will be embedded on Persebaya's jersey next season, as that on QPR's Park Ji-Sung.
Later, Cholid denies that there has been a split between PT PI and PT PPI in club's management.  And he is not worried that sluggish discussion of MoU will make Air Asia retreat from their plan to sponsor Persebaya.***
